CM Software (Oxford) have launched “Vending Intelligence”, a hand-held computer system which uses artificial intelligence techniques to predict stock levels within its database of vending machines. The computer learns sales patterns for each machine on its territory to plans the optimum route each day for the operator to follow. In addition, on arrival at site the computer guesses the products needed saving a second trip back to the van. Vending Intelligence also calculates the minimum stock required to last until the next visit saving waste on short shelf-life products. The computer also monitors the money collected from each machine comparing this with product sold, highlighting theft or security issues. Vending Intelligence is inexpensive, using the iPAQ handheld computer, and the software comes with a guarantee that if it doesn’t pay for itself in increased profits within six months then the price will be refunded.
